However, tar can leave dark stains, so be sure to protect clothes and bedding. For scalp psoriasis that doesn’t respond to mild treatments, topical steroids may be recommended. Solutions and foam formulations can make it easier to apply the medication to the skin beneath the hair. Because scale-covered plaques can interfere with absorption of these topical medications, some doctors recommend therapies to help remove the scales, such as salicylic acid. Warming the scalp and applying oils, lotions, or creams will also loosen the scales, making them easy to remove with gentle
